The one-off Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagat coupe has been revealed

Christmas came a few days ago for the lucky lovers in Germany. Italian design house Zagat has unveiled a one-off carbon fiber coupe called the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagat that features a twin-turbocharged V6 and was commissioned by a German collector.

Zagat explained that it launched the project to celebrate the centenary of the collaboration with Alfa Romeo and the current generation of Giulia and its V6 engine. It started with shortening the Giorgio platform on which both Giulia and Stelios were built. Then you draw a sketch of a striking coupe that borrows some styling cues from many past and present Alfa models. The front fascia is dominated by air intakes (including one in the shape of an alpha grille) and features a pair of Tonal-like LED headlights. The coupe's profile features a long hood, short rear end, and a dual carbon-fiber roof panel left unpainted, while the rear end gets a thin, curved light bar and massive diffuser.

While many cars have inspired designers, including the 1989 SZ that Zagat helped design, the Giulia SWB isn't exactly old school or outdated in any way. It features carbon fiber body panels and is powered by an evolution of the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine fitted to the updated Giulia Quadrifoglio to GTAM-spec. Tech specs haven't been released, but the GTAM-six is tuned to develop 540 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Starting with the Quadrifoglio engine, Zagat gave it a big advantage: The V6 spins the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The Limited Edition GTAm is offered exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Green accents and several carbon fiber bits help distinguish the SWB model from the sedan it's based on, and the main difference between the two cars is that the coupe is only two-seater.

The Zagat Giulia SWB has been delivered to its new owner after the photos you see in our gallery were taken at La Pasta racetrack located near the birthplace of Alfa Romeo in Milan, Italy. There is no information about who owns it yet; All we know is that the coupe will join what looks like a huge lineup of high-end cars that includes the 8C Competition, the 1990 SZ, as well as a handful of Zagat-bodied Aston Martin models.

Alfa Romeo design chief Alejandro Mesomere gave the Giulia SWB project his blessing, but the coupe appears to have been largely designed and built by Zagat. "The presence of the Alfa Romeo badge on the car is only for descriptive and promotional purposes and Zagat's choice of inspiration from the Alfa Romeo SZ," the design firm wrote. In other words, it likely won't be the range-topping, once again decommissioned sports car that Alfa has promised to release (most likely as a limited-edition coupe) before the end of 2023.
